Arrival - Negombo

Airport arrival and first night in Negombo.

Day 02
Anuradhapura - Ancient Urban Planning at Scale

A guided exploration of Anuradhapura’s ancient stupas, monastic complexes, and irrigation systems – one of the most impressive examples of urban planning and sacred architecture in the ancient world, still in daily use as an active pilgrimage site.

Day 03
Mihintale - Sacred Hillside Architecture & Sigiriya Region

The stepped hillside precinct of Mihintale, where 2nd-century BCE monastic architecture follows the natural rock formations of the hill, followed by the afternoon drive to Sigiriya.

Day 04
Sigiriya Rock Fortress - 5th-Century Sky Architecture

The morning ascent of Sigiriya – the most extraordinary example of ancient Sri Lankan architectural ambition – leaves the afternoon open for a village exploration of the ancient irrigation landscape.

Day 05
Kandy - Sri Dalada Maligawa & Kandyan Architecture

The drive to Kandy for a guided visit to the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic and an exploration of the Kandyan architectural tradition – the carved doorways, the painted interiors, and the moated temple complex that represents the final expression of independent Sinhalese royal culture.

Day 06
Tea Country - Colonial Plantation Architecture

The highland drive through the tea country introduces the colonial-era plantation architecture that physically transformed the central highlands – bungalows, factories, and estate roads that tell the story of a 19th-century agricultural revolution.

Day 07
Scenic Train to Ella - Mobile Architecture

The hill country train – itself a colonial-era engineering achievement – delivers you through the most spectacular landscape in the island to Ella’s highland setting.

Day 08
East Coast Drive - Trincomalee Ancient Harbour City

The drive to Trincomalee on the east coast introduces a city shaped by its extraordinary natural harbour – the Koneswaram Temple on Swami Rock, the Dutch fort, and the British-era fortifications that speak to centuries of strategic military interest in one of Asia’s finest natural anchorages.

Day 09
Pigeon Island & East Coast Marine Environment

Snorkelling at Pigeon Island’s coral sanctuary (seasonal) and a full east coast leisure day on the pristine beaches of Nilaveli or Uppuveli.

Day 10
East Coast Continued - Calm, Clear, Uncrowded

A second full day on Sri Lanka’s east coast – one of the most consistently beautiful and least-visited stretches of tropical coastline in Asia.

Day 11
Return to Colombo via Scenic Route

The inland drive from the east coast back toward Colombo through the island’s interior landscape.

Day 12
Colombo - Architecture & City Exploration
